Comments: I used a size 9 needle this time and I really like the results. It came out just a little bit larger. I didn't have to stretch it to size when I blocked it. I love the yarn. It's very nice to work with.

I finished one of my Ravellenic Games projects last night. It's for the Frogging Trampoline event.

I frogged the kimono jacket I started in 2008. I really didn't like the way it was knitting up. The colors were all wrong. It looks like this now.

I am feeling happier about it. For now, the yarn goes in the stash until I can think of a project for it. Tonight I will tackle the second project for the Frogging Trampoline.

It is hot this week. Hot enough that the air conditioner didn't keep up with it today. The humidity is high too. 85% is unusual for around here. It made today's tasks difficult.

Ruth and I are scouring the house for yard sale items. I dug through a few more boxes brought home from the shop when I closed it and emptied 2 of them. It feels so good. I don't have much left. I keep whittling away at it and eventually it'll be done. I'm also getting rid of the bunk bed set in my daughters room and getting her a regular bed. 25 is a little old for a kids bunk bed. Also getting rid of a chest of drawers, a PS2 PlayStation, a stereo set, a color laser printer that I no longer use, DVD player, and an assortment of smaller things. I've decided it's time to find a new home for Morgan and Tommy's things too. I've got 2 small dog beds, 2 doggy car seats, and a pile of home made sweaters hanging around the house that Cable can't use.

Our yard sale will be held Saturday and Sunday at my brother-in-laws house. The whole family is getting involved. I'm looking forward to it. Should be fun.

Comments: This is, of course, my favorite baby sweater pattern. It turned out larger than the pattern sizing because I used a size 9 needle instead of size 6. I like it. The fabric is a little softer as a result.

The buttons came from my stash of antique buttons that I 'inherited' several years ago.

This is what I'm working on now.


Three more unfinished items were donated to Knitwits-all with no patterns accompanying them, so I've been assigned the task of finishing them. This is a child size sweater. It came to me with half the bottom band done, and still on the needles, which made it so convenient for me. (I don't have to guess or swatch). I'd say this project was probably started close to 30 years ago, maybe more. I'm just going to do what will look good since I have no idea how it is supposed to be finished.

There is quite a bit of the green yarn left, and just a bit of the cream. It's a very old Bucilla yarn no longer being made, Bucilla Civona-Sport. It has an unusual hand. Sort of feels like soft nylon that is very stretchy, but it's 100% Orlon Acrylic. I like it. It's soft to the touch.

I've finished the bottom band. It needs button and neck bands now. I've got the buttonhole side done, and the button side just has 2 rows left.

As I was working on this yesterday I wondered who started this project? Was it for a grandchild? A friend? I wonder what they would think if they knew I am finishing it in the year 2010? It will be worn by a child who really needs it. I think they would like that.

I dug in the stash of antique buttons and I've found some that will match it quite well.

Yesterday was my birthday. I had a very nice one too. I got presents (more details on that later), and taken out to dinner. I was craving Mexican so we went to Toro Viejo here in Rathdrum. I love their Enchiladas Rancheras. It is sooooooooo good! My daughter slipped it to the waitress that it was my birthday. So I ended up getting to wear a huge purple sombrero while everyone sang Happy Birthday, and they gave me Flan for dessert. Mmmmm, flan......

It's absolutely beautiful out right now. Blue sky and sunshine. I hope I can spend a little time out on the deck knitting in the sun before the game. We have folks coming over to watch the Superbowl Game. A little party, if you will. It's the only football game we watch. I'm not sure why we watch it. We're not football fans. Doug says it's an American tradition, and he thinks it might be against the law to not watch it. (LOL!) I've got Dilled Pot Roast in the crock pot. I need to get the dip made and set things up in the kitchen for a buffet.

Layette Set #39

The North Idaho State Fair is coming soon so I'm getting the entries ready. I did the KnitWits entries today. Including mine, I have 17 entries. I will have 5. One of those entries will be the cardigan, hat, and booties for Layette set 39, which I've finished.

These colors were very hard to photograph. I made adjustments on my camera and this was the best I could do. I think I need to take them in the sunshine rather than shade. Anyway, here it is. I used my slowly developing Polka Dot pattern I thought I would have finished a long time ago but Margaret Tudor gets my attention instead.

Comments: I love knitting this pattern. I was test knitting it while making the cardigan and found several mistakes. I had it on my phone as a PDF file and made notes as I found errors. One of the things I really like about Adobe Reader. I lost that file last week.

An Android update took place on my phone and when it was done I lost all my photos and files that I had on my phone. I was able to get the photos back because they're automatically backed up by Android (via our phone company). I was only able to recover a small handful of the PDF files, (which sucks cuz I had some really cool beading patterns on my phone that I hadn't backed up on my lap top yet). I guess I'll have to test knit again to re-find the errors.

I found a nicer 3 stitch decrease for the last round of decreases in the crown and used it, though I doubt anyone will notice. I also used a different SSK (Slip, Slip, Knit) left leaning decrease. Almost forgot, the buttons. I wanted to use orange buttons but I only had 2 in the stash and was loath to go anywhere to search for more, so I decided to alternate between orange and aqua. I really like how it looks.

Here's hoping it does well at the fair.

The matching blanket is not done yet. You'll be seeing it in the not too distant future. I am not entering it with the rest of the set because it's a crocheted edging rather than knitting. I hope I have enough orange yarn left. If not, I'm screwed cuz there is no way I can get more.

Still coughing the goopy cough. It's not asthma. I'm not having asthma attacks right now. The air has been very clear. Sweet Hubby asked me if any of the new meds I've been taking have coughing as a side affect. I had never thought of that. I checked, and coughing is the first thing on the side effects list for one of them. I've stopped taking it as of today to see if it makes a difference. I'm going to have to make an appointment with my doctor about this. It's getting worse and driving me crazy.

There is a typo error in the pattern, for this size, after slipping the thumb stitches on a piece of yarn to be held. Where it says "There will be on needles... sts 3", it should read 30.

Comments: I love the yarn. I had not used it before. It feels wonderful and is extremely nice to work with. One of the best quality acrylics I've come across. I hope to see more of this yarn in my future.

The pattern is okay. It runs a little on the snug side. Increasing a needle size should fix that.

I also found errors in the size medium, the size I knit. It was easy to fix. I don't want to go into details here. (You can find that info in my Ravelry notebook entry.) I added the conductive thread in at the last half inch of the index finger. Would have done all of the fingers and thumb that way but didn't have enough thread. It takes about a yard per finger. One finger is sufficient for a class model.

Comments: This is actually a very fast knit. I just took my darn sweet time on it. The pattern calls for Berroco Plush. I substituted the Aldemir Yumos, which is very similar in weight and used one size larger needles. I had no problem getting gauge. There's a lot of sewing involved, but it doesn't take long. I steam blocked it just like I usually do.

Comments: I've modified the pattern a bit. The original design has individual half fingers knit in stockinette stitch. I decided I didn't want that and did an inch of 1x1 rib instead. I bound off with the EZ Sewn Bind Off for extra stretchiness so they'd be easier to put on. These are a little snug, but very comfortable mitts. I love the stitch patterns used in them-linen stitch and lateral braid. I would make these again, and again. A good KIP project too.

Comments: I've done this pattern a couple times before. It's become my go to pattern for plain mens mitts. Admittedly, I did some pattern adjustments on the thumb gusset, but I'm not going to go into them because I just did personal little anal things. The pattern is fine the way it is.

Comments: I only had 3 balls of the Eyelash and figuring out how to make an entire adult size shrug with them was quite a challenge. I decided on dropped stitch lace, a second color for stripes, and really big needles.

Comments: This is, of course, my favorite baby sweater pattern. It turned out larger than the pattern sizing because I used a size 9 needle instead of size 6. I like it. The fabric is a little softer as a result.

Comments: I created this pattern for Ray at Knitivity. I picked a stitch pattern that I think goes well with variegated yarns. It is an easy pattern to memorize. These are knitted from the toe up. The yarn was nice to work with. I love the way it pooled on the feet. The pattern will be available from Knitivity when I get it done and delivered.
