The First Time Meme

I don't have anything to write about today, so I'm going to do another meme. I will say, it is a day of celebration. It's the last day I have to watch bony butts bouncing on bicycle seats. Yes, the final stage of the Tour de France. HURRAY!!!!! I've missed Good Morning America. Not seeing it has screwed up my morning routine. Now, on to the meme.

When Was Your First Time

Who was your first prom date? Mike Skyles. No one from school asked me. Mike was my best friend. He was a couple years older than me, and never went to his high school prom, so I talked him into going with me to mine. We had a good time.

Do you still talk to your first love? No. I have no idea where he is .

What was your first alcoholic drink?
Wine. My parents made it. They'd made an apple wine that turned out really sweet and I got to have some of it. I remember it being very good.

What was your first job?
Picking raspberries. Hard work for very little pay. I earned $1.10 after 8 hours in the hot sun.

What was your first car?
A 1972 Plymouth Valiant, bought just a couple weeks before my daughter Sarah was born. It was in mint condition. I loved that car. Definitely made for women.

Who was the first person to text you today?
No one. I don't even know how to text someone, let alone read texts coming to me.

Who is the first person you thought of this morning?
Sweet Hubby. He woke me up by banging the bathroom door and my first thought was "Why is he banging that door?"

Who was your first grade teacher?
Mrs. Williams. I have very fond memories of her. She was a sweet person.

Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane?
I went to Detroit, Michigan to visit my Aunt and Uncle for a couple weeks when I was 14. It was a United Airlines 747. So exciting! I worked very hard for the money for the plane ticket. I paid for it myself, at the airport, in all $1 bills. I don't think the clerk was too happy about that, but that was the way I'd earned it. One dollar at a time.

Who was your first best friend and are you still friends?
Gail Ashland and Lori Richardson. We were the 3 muskateers. I was 4 or 5 years old. Gail moved away to california and we lost touch. Lori dumped me when Gail moved away.

What was your first sport played?
Softball, and I really sucked at it. Actually, I still suck at it.

Where was your first sleepover?
My friend Gails house.

Who was the first person you talked to this morning?
Sweet Hubby.

Whose wedding were you first in?
Mine.

What was the first thing you did this morning?
Let the fur boys out to do their morning business.

What was the first concert you went to?
Seattle Symphony. (I'm a violinist.) Got to see them when I was a kid. They played Beethoven's 5th symphony. Most exhilarating!

What was your first tattoo or piercing?
Don't have any.

What was the first foreign country you went to?
Canada. It's so close.

What was your first run in with the law?
I've never had a run in with the law. I'm a good girl.

When was your first detention?
Never have had detention. See above answer.

What was the first state you lived in?
Washington. Born in Renton.

Who was the first person to break your heart?
Lori Richardson. She dumped me as a friend at the tender age of 6. Broke my heart cos we were best friends. When our 3rd muskateer moved away, Gails toy organ was given to me, instead of Lori-a determination made by our parents. Lori got very angry about that. Sigh. She never forgave me for it.

Who was your first roommate?
Sue-Mathas Hall dorm, Western Washington University. You do not know how long I had to think to remember that, and I can't remember her last name. We weren't roomies for very long, and I did not like living with her. A huge difference in morals.

Where did you go in your first limo ride?
Never been on a limo ride.

Knitting news: I've finished the first purple Charade sock. Will take pics after I've blocked it.

Beading news: I've finished a cabochon I started ages ago. Will take pics when I take pics of the above mentioned sock.

Good news: Our 'economic stimulus' check finally arrived in the mail. Hurray! We'll be using it to stimulate the University of Idaho's economy. Tuition time is coming up.

It's gonna be another hot day, with smoke. There's a wild fire in Spokane Valley that is mucking up my air. It's about 80% contained, but they're predicting high winds today. Lets all think good thoughts that it won't make the fire worse. 11 homes have been lost to this fire-which just sucks. I think I'll stay indoors. I have enough trouble with the asthma as it is.

Have a good day.

7 Questions Meme

Thought I'd do a meme today, since I have nothing else to write about at the moment.

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

I was a housewife/mother and I was also working in the machine knitting industry as a pattern publisher and teacher. I published under the name Precious Knits. I wrote mostly toy patterns and afghans for Passap and Brother knitting machines. Didn't make any money though. The industry was in really pathetic shape (read "dying").

2. What are five things on my to-do list today?

1) finish my Turkish loop bead crochet necklace.
2) Do some laundry.
3) Vacuum the house.
4) Wind 3 balls of Cascade 220 into balls in preparation for a knit/felting project.
5) Water the potted plants.

for starters.

3. What snacks do I enjoy?

Potato chips, crackers and cheese, potato chips, apple slices, potato chips, and potato chips. Did I mention potato chips? (I'm an Idahoan for a reason!)

4. Where are some places I've lived?

Renton, Washington-born there. Federal Way, Washington-raised there. Bellingham, WA- went to college there. Also Sunnyvale, CA, San Jose, CA

5. What would you do if you were a billionaire?

First, pay off all our debts. Build a dream house, buy property in Hawaii-and spend the winters there. Do lots of charity things here in the US.

6. What jobs have you done?

File clerk for the Dept. of Social and Health Services in Washington State. Librarian for King County, WA. Receptionist for math dept of Highline Community College. Watch Repair Shop manager. Owner of Yarn shop. Waitress at burger place. Salesclerk at gift shop. Picker of berries.

7. Which other people would you like to know more about?

I wish I could get to know Monica Ferris (the author). Karen Armstrong (author of The History of God) cos I have a ton of questions I'd like to ask her. I'd love to know Pierce Brosnan, Diane Settersfield (another author), and Ellen Degeneres. Robin Williams too. I've always thought spending an hour with Robin would be the cure for cancer.

Have a great day.

The ABC's of Me Meme

I found this Meme on the BAG 'N' Trash blog. I like it so much I decided to do it. But, before I get started, I just wanted to let y'all know that my daughter Ruth did get a job Friday. She has been hired to wash dishes in the Lindy restaurant at Silverwood Theme Park. I am happy about this, cos she needs this experience. She is very excited. Her first job! Woo Hoo!

The ABC's of Me

Accent: Northwest American of course.

Breakfast or no breakfast: I have never been a breakfast eater, but I do force myself to do so a couple times a week.

Chore I don’t care for: The laundry. I absolutely HATE doing laundry.

Dog or Cat: Both, and plenty of them (2 dogs, 2 cats)

Essential Electronics: The TV, DVR, DVD player, my camera, and my laptop.

Favorite Cologne: It changes. Right now Enchanted Orchid from Bath and Body Works

Gold or Silver: If I have to choose...gold.

Handbag I carry most often: My black suede purse with shiny leather trim. Though, to be honest, it's not quite big enough so I will soon be moving into the new dark brown leather purse I bought recently.

Insomnia: Yeah, a lot. Partly because of my anxiety disorder, partly cos I have body parts that ache at inconvenient times. I have found the best thing to do, for me, is to read a novel. It usually will take my mind off whatever is causing the brain to overwork and I fall asleep.

Job Title: Sweet Hubby puts Professional Knitter on the tax returns.

Kids: Two fantastic daughters.

Living Arrangements: 3 bedroom manufactured home on 10 acres of north Idaho, in the middle of 320 acres of north Idaho forest owned by Sweet Hubby and his siblings. We share this home with our cats and dogs, and occasionally a daughter.

Most Admirable Trait: My courage. It takes a lot to recover from the childhood I've had.

Naughtiest Childhood Behavior: When I was in second grade I wanted a watch in the worst way. I stole one from a classmate. I'm a terrible thief. The teacher discovered my theft right away and I was sent to the principles office. Scared the you-know-what out of me, and I've never stolen again.

Overnight hospital stays: Stayed overnight with the birth of both my daughters.

Phobias: What, are you kidding? I have Panic Attack Anxiety Disorder. What am I NOT afraid of (besides the knitting needles) ?

Quote: "Life sucks, and then you die." -- sister in law Sue. Not that I live my life that way. It's just what came to mind at the moment-which is pretty pathetic, and weird, cos I'm very happy with life right now.

Reason to smile: Life is GOOD!

Siblings: Two younger sisters. Don't hear from them much.

Time I wake up: Usually around 6:30am. If I don't, the boys (my dogs) make sure I do cos they want to go outside most desperately.

Unusual Talent or Skill: Managing a group of people to get things done. I've been told several times I'm really really good at it.

Vegetable I Refuse to Eat: Ochra. Don't even ask!

Worst Habit: I count steps when I go up, or down, them. Annoys the heck out of me. But I can't. stop. doing. it.

X-rays: Do Mammograms count? Ribs when I was a kid-I actually slipped on a banana peel in the lunch room at school, fell and broke two ribs. I can testify that IT WAS NOT FUNNY! I don't know why everybody laughed. Also have had my poor excuse for a back x-rayed many times.

Yummy Stuff: Cheese, cheese cake, and a nice juicy steak grilled medium rare-oh, and potatoes-cooked any way. I'm a potato addict.

Zoo Animal I Like Most: The elephant.

Have a great day.

Christmas Meme

I found this Christmas Meme on Rae's World and thought I'd do it. It's been kind of fun. Feel free to 'steal' it for your blog should you so desire.

(Btw Rae, you left out Vixen.)

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

Most of the time it's wrapping paper, and I love decorating with ribbons and stuff afterwards. I'm well known for my creative uses of leftover yarns on present wrappings.

2. Real or Artificial tree ?

Fake. See post about Cats and Christmas Trees.

3. When do you put up the tree?

The day after Thanksgiving, though it usually takes me the rest of the week to get it decorated.

4. When do you take the tree down?

January 2nd.

5. Do you like Eggnog?

Yes I do, but I have to go easy on it cos it upsets my tummy.

6. Favorite Gift you received as a child?

We didn't celebrate Christmas when I was a child.

7. Do you have a nativity scene?

No. Until we get our beliefs sorted out, Sweet Hubby and I have chosen to leave the religious aspect of Christmas out for now, and celebrate the love and family aspect.

8. Hardest person to buy for?

Sweet Hubby, cos 9 times out of 10 if he decides he wants something, he just goes and gets it, leaving me nothing to surprise him with.

9. Easiest person to buy for?

Daughter Sarah. I always know what she'll like.

10. Worst Christmas gift ever received?

That would be the Black and Decker Scum Buster. When it first came out, we were in a department store and I saw one. I said, and I quote, "Oh, that looks interesting." Sweet Hubby interpreted that to mean "I really really really really want that for Christmas." It was, and is, a piece of junk. A good old fashioned scrub brush and some elbow grease is quicker and better.

11. Christmas Cards...Snail mail or E-mail?

When I send them, it's by Snail mail.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?

White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kay.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?

Around October.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Yes I have.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Sister in law Sue's Christmas cookies.

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?

Changes from year to year. This year it's clear. Last year was multi. The year before was strictly purple. The year before that was blue.

17. Favorite Christmas Song?

White Christmas

18. Travel at Christmas or Stay Home?

We usually stay home cos that's where Sweet Hubby's family is. This year, though, we're leaving Christmas day to go on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. I can hardly wait!

19. Can you name Santa's Reindeer?

Yes: Prancer, Dancer, Dasher, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen, & Rudolph

20.Do you have an Angel or a Star on top of your tree?

Star

21. Open the Presents Christmas Eve or Morning?

Both. Christmas Eve we open the presents the family exchanges at dinner we have together. Christmas morning we open up what's under our tree.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?

The stress.

23. Shopping...mall or online?

Both.

24. Do you decorate outside for Christmas or just inside (or at all?)

Mostly inside, but I do manage to get Sweet Hubby to put some lights on the house. We used to have a whole set of those white lighted reindeer too, but they don't work anymore.

25. Favorite Christmas cookie?

Anything Sue makes.

26. Do you own Christmassy clothing or jewelry?

Well, heck, yes! I have a whole collection of tacky Christmas sweaters which I wear proudly every year.

27. Do you believe in Santa?

No, but I like to play the game.

Have a great day.
