It's Caturday!

Haven't done a Caturday in ages. I actually got the kitties to sit still for a moment so I could take pictures. They all had just settled down to take the afternoon nap.

Cashmere with his beautiful pink nose. He stretched out on one half of the couch.

He wheezes and snores a lot when he's asleep because of his sinus problems. Doesn't seem to bother him though.

Merino decided a blanket on the floor was good, right next to Cables bed.

Merino has developed an interesting trait. I think it's from hanging around the dog. He loves Cable and sees her as his Mommy these days. He'll let her give him a thorough cleaning with her tongue (yuk!). Anyway, he now will grab food you hand to him and run off with it. I've never seen a cat do that. Usually if I want to hand them a tidbit I end up dropping it on the floor where they sniff it and, if interested, proceed to eat it. Not Merino. No sirree.  He grabs it and runs around with it in his mouth giving it a complete tour of the house. Then he'll hide somewhere and eat it. I expect when he finally figures out the doggy door, he'll be taking his treats outside to eat in the back yard like Cable does.

Chenille took the other end of the couch snuggling in with blankets.

She spends 5-6 hours every afternoon sleeping in a blanket nest on the couch. It's her way of dealing with the depressing winter I guess. It's better than sitting on the window sill grumpily glaring at the snow and taking swipes at us with her claws extended as we walk by.

I'm working on the chevron sweater. I'm up to the front neck opening now and knitting up one side of it. I'm starting to get excited. I'm really gonna finish this thing!

I started a shrug for Knit Wits in silver fur, but I don't know if I have enough yarn (no yardage info on the labels), so I'm waiting until I know for sure before I take pictures. If I don't have enough yarn, I'll be frogging and changing my plans.

We had sunshine on Wednesday. It was freaking cold, but it sure was nice to see the sun and blue sky. It was downright pretty out with all the trees on the mountains covered in snow. We delivered our mittens, hats, and scarves we made this past month to the Knit Wits meeting. Everyone had huge piles to bring in. We had more than enough for the emergency request we got last month. I am so proud of our group.

On Thursday Ruth and I went to Yarnies in the morning. I worked on the Chevron sweater during the meeting. Afterwards we had lunch (Taco Bell). I had a blood test scheduled for 2pm. We had a few minutes to kill after lunch before the appointment so we popped into Biglots. They had NEW yarn in stock. Tons of it for $1-3 a skein. Mostly fingering weight acrylic baby yarn and funky novelty yarns. The baby yarn is in 113oz skeins, pretty pastel colors, and were only 2 bucks each. I bought 20 skeins for Knit Wits. Then we headed over to the clinic for my blood test. While there I thought about how good that yarn deal was, and how low on yarn Knit Wits is right now. I checked the balance in the bank account-it's pretty good- and decided to go back afterward and get more. I bought 20 more skeins-making a total of 40. It's probably good that I don't run into good deals like that very often. We'd probably go bankrupt.

Caturday 12/1/2012

The boys were napping on the chair yesterday.

They are a bit larger than when they napped on the same chair 2 months ago.

Merino is considerably larger than Cashmere now by a good 2 pounds. They still cuddle and hug though.

Caturday 11/17/2012

It's Caturday! Todays presentation is about:

Noses

Cashmere has a sweet little pale pink nose.

Unfortunately, it is quite noisy with it's sneezes, snores, rattles and wheezes. He has a virus that was caught when he was still in his mothers womb. The vet says there isn't anything that can be done with it. We just have to keep an eye on him. It doesn't seem to bother him.

I love pink noses. Even if they are a bit noisy.

Merino has a black nose. It's shaped a little differently than his brothers too. Rounder on the top.

Merino almost always has dried cat food stuck to his nose.

He also sticks it everywhere he can squeeze it in! I've never seen such a curious cat. I mean, they are all curious, but not like this little guy. He is very intelligent. I attribute this to the extra curiosity.

I hope you've enjoyed the boys noses.

It's Caturday

I tried to get them to pose for a portrait. Not easy. If they're not moving, then they are sleeping.

Caturday and a Bracelet

It's Caturday! A couple evenings ago my daughter was drinking some blue kool-aid type beverage (blueberry lemonade?). Cashmere, being the ever curious cat that he is, decided to give it a try. He liked it too-a lot. Getting to it, though, was a challenge.

I worked on the lace bead woven bracelet a little bit each day this week and finished it. Click on the photos to embiggen.

The pattern, written in French, is called Couvige and is posted on the blog Marie Noel Creations.

It's made entirely of 2 sizes of seed beads. I used a matte solid gold size 15 and silver lined a/b rootbeer size 11. But it's just as pretty using the same color for both size beads.

It's woven with a combination of Right Angle Weave and Netting stitches.

A little detail of the bracelet.

I used a button for the clasp that is just the right size to fit through the holes in the pattern.

There's a crystal in the middle of the button, but it refused to sparkle for the camera.

It was a very fun project to do.

Tonight is gonna be fun. My niece gave us tickets to see the Spokane Symphony. I am so excited!

They are playing Dvorak's 7th Symphony and a Brahms Serenade. It has been so long since I've been to the symphony. I used to go quite often. In fact, I used to play symphonies when I was in college. I was a music major at Western Washington University. My instrument is the violin, though I've also played percussion. I used to live, breath, eat, and sleep music. Those were fun days, but from another lifetime. Now I'm lucky if I get to see a performance at all. Tonight is going to be an awesome treat!

It's Caturday

Caturday 10/13/2012

Yesterday morning there was a regular ol' house fly buzzing around the living room window. It caught the attention of 2 very rascally kittens.

Hey Mom! Come see what we've found!

They stared at it for a long time, wishing they could get their little paws on it, but it was so high up. Further than they could reach!

Looking for the fly.

Merino couldn't stand it any longer. He had to get. that. fly! He came up with a 'solution'.

The daring young cat on the window edge.

The only problem was, he was standing on such a narrow edge that if he lifted one paw he would lose his balance, so he couldn't catch the fly. He could only stare at it longingly. He finally gave up and jumped down. The fly got away this time.

Pink Herringbone Sparkles Bracelet

Lets start with this weeks Caturday pic. Kittens sleeping.

Paws in the lower right corner are Cables.
She was guarding them while they slept on her bed.

It seems to be the only thing I'm able to get on camera these days. If they aren't sleeping, then they are moving non-stop running through the house playing with everything they can get their little paws on.

Yesterday I took them in for their second wellness check. They are both 3 lbs now. There are no more ear mites and the eye infections are gone. They are healthy little stinkers.

Who you callin' stinker?

This morning I gave them their first paper bag to play in. Oh my goodness but they had a good time with it! They played until they were exhausted and settled down for another nap.

All this past week I have been working on another Herringbone Sparkles bracelet. I finished it last night.

I got myself out of the blue rut I've been in and did something pink.

I used 4mm White AB firepolish crystals, clear ab size 11 seed beads, silver lined pink delicas, and magenta pink size 15s.

I used an oval shaped lampwork bead for the button clasp.

I added 4 beads to the beginning ladder stitch row to make it wider than the blue one.

Now I just need something to wear it with.
