Kep 2020 Knitalong Project

I mentioned a few weeks ago I'd joined a knitalong on the Facebook page The Fair Isle Fisherman's Kep. I've finished my kep early. I couldn't stop once I got a rhythm going.

Yarn: KnitPicks Palette
Content: 100% Wool, Fingering Weight
Colors: Asphault Heather, Cream, Silver, Pumice Heather, and Iris Heather

Needles: Circular size 3 and 4

Started: May 18, 2020
Finished: June 7, 2020

Comments: I love this hat so much! I used larger needles this time, same number of stitches. The colors worked out wonderful together. It fits me perfect. What's not to love?

The circular stitch pattern is from the book Selbu Mittens by Anne Bardsgard.

These two stitch patterns come with the kep pattern. They make a nice contrast to the circular pattern.

I put a pompom on the top because I didn't want a tassel.

I'm looking forward to wearing this next winter.

It's 81F degrees out right now so I won't be wearing it for awhile. It's been fairly wet and rainy and chilly. Some places actually got frost Tuesday night. Thankfully, we didn't. Temps went soaring today. It's hot and humid, and I see black clouds headed this way. Thunderstorms, I assume. There have been some pretty nasty ones the last couple weeks, but the worst ones have gone around us, rather than over us.

I've been knitting quite a bit lately. I'll talk about that tomorrow.

MMKKMMystery Shawl KAL

I want to knit more lace in the coming year. So I'm going to start out with a mystery shawl knit along hosted by Leo Pola. He designs the most beautiful lace shawl patterns.

I have decided to use this yarn for the shawl, along with these size 8 seed beads (though I may change my mind on the bead color cos I'm not totally convinced of this choice)


The yarn is Mary Lue Solo, a 3ply light fingering weight 100% Acrylic in Lilac. I've had this yarn in the stash for a very long time. I used Mary Lue Solo quite a bit in my machine knitting days. It's a very nice quality yarn. I just love this shade of lilac.

The KAL starts January 1, 2010-tomorrow. Leo will be posting one clue a week for 8 weeks. I am looking forward to it. If you might be interested in joining me, check it out.

It is snowing out. It snowed yesterday, all day long, but it was those itty bitty teeny tiny fluffy flakes that take a lot to amount to anything. After all day we had barely an inch. Still, Sweet Hubby felt the need to plow the driveway with his new tractor. This evening the flakes are bigger, wetter-more like snowman making snow.

We are going to a party tonight. It is nephew Shawns birthday as well as New Years Eve. I am trying a new recipe for hors d'oeurves involving Pillsbury pie crust and meat filling. I will let you know how it turns out.

Sock News

I finished the second Monkey sock. Hurray! I've got a pair. When I went walking with C and J I took them along for a little show and tell. J asked if I was going to enter them in the fair. Oops! Is it fair time already? I wasn't going to because the stitches where I changed needles looked really sloppy. I washed them when I got home-they're first washing on the gentle cycle, then a trip in the dryer on the knits cycle. Then I steam blocked them. They came out beautiful! What's more, the uneven stitches had evened out. I gathered them and all my other fair offerings and headed for the fair grounds. I forgot to take a pic of the socks before going. So we'll have to wait until fair time is over. Maybe there'll be a ribbon to include in the pic.

I've entered 5 knitting projects (red mohair scarf, Monkey Socks, slip-stitch wool hat, Morgans red cable sweater, and a beaded knit amulet bag), 1 crochet (bead crochet rope lariat), and 7 beaded items (2 Christmas ornament covers-one green and one purple, West African netted necklace, peyote chevron bracelet, tubular peyote necklace, dream catcher earrings, and cabochon-in-black necklace).

It's been a few years since I've entered anything in the fair. I used to be quite involved with it. I entered stuff all the time in the hand and machine knitting, crochet, and counted cross stitch depts, and even offered special coupons for people who won ribbons at my shop. But when the girls started college I found myself unable to go anymore. At fair time I was helping pack, load, haul, and unpack my daughters to school. This year, though, Ruth went down a week early.

Now I need to start a new pair of socks. If I'm gonna be in a Sock a Month KAL, I better knit socks! I was trying to decide whether to start a pair of mens socks (which would require a less than exciting stitch pattern cos the man in question is pretty conservative) or maybe a pair of wild hot pink variegated Jaywalkers cos I'm dying to try that pattern? Then I popped over to the Socktopia blog, another sock KAL I've just joined. Ooooooo----a mystery sock for this month. My interest is peaked. I'm going to make that. Now to pick a yarn, cos the hot pink ain't gonna work.

Bead group today. Have no idea what I'm gonna work on. It is Kathryns birthday though, so we'll have cake. Goody!
