An Ugly Scarf and Yarnies

Ugly Yarn Scarf for Knitwits

Pattern: Mohair Lace Scarf by Beadknitter
Size:  70 inches long by 6 inches wide .
Yarn: Dawn Mospun (2 strands held together)
Content:
100% Acrylic
Needles: Addi Turbo Circular size 15
Cast on: March 7, 2010
Bound off: March 19, 2010

Comments: Love the pattern, but I'm biased. Working with the yarn was interesting. It was an old acrylic fake mohair made in the 1950s with a very plastic feel to it. Thus, the name of the project-Ugly Yarn. I machine washed and dried it after it was done. It was so soft and cuddly and fluffy after that. I am quite pleased with how it turned out.

Last Wednesday, when I went to my Yarnies meeting, I took my camera with me. Here are some pics of people who I'm very lucky to have in my life.

One side of the sitting area has a couch. This is Judy, Joyce, and Victoria on the left, and a new gal named Teran on the right. Teran has Alpacas.

The other side of the sitting area. That is Liz, Annie, and Teran.

Andrea is the shop owner as well as my friend.

Judy being, well, Judy. She is the self appointed Tea server. She loves to get everyone a cup of tea when we're there.

We were having home made chocolate cheesecake that day too, provided by Andrea. Judy made sure everyone had a piece. I made sure not to take pics of anyone just as they're starting to chew. ;-)

Bugsy is shop mascot and official sniffer of food to make sure it's edible. His attention was totally on Terans' cheesecake. He takes his job seriously.

Liz is actually fairly new to the group. She is originally from Mississippi and has a southern accent when she talks. She also is a real sweetheart and has the most wonderful sense of humor. She can make me laugh until I pee my pants.

Annie is checking out a book of Estonian Lace projects (an awesome book, by the way. Project photos are sure to cause drooling in lace knitters). She was sporting her freshly finished vest that day.

This is Joyce. She knits a lot of hats and socks. She's also very kind and quick witted. She loves chocolate too.

Teran and Annie deep in conversation with Liz. Buddy is doing his best Jedi Mind Control Stare. It didn't' work.

Liz again. She knits in Portuguese style. It's kind of interesting to watch. I'm going to try it one of these days.

There are a few ladies not pictured here because they weren't at the meeting. Maybe I can catch them next time. Not all of us knit. Some crochet. We are a group for yarn addicts. (Doesn't matter how you're using it.)

CDA Yarnies. We meet at CDA Yarn and Fiber on Wednesdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Feel free to join us if you can.

Have a great day.

Fridays Feast 11/2/07

I did it. I met with someone in person who I've met on the internet. Despite my nervousness at the start, I had a wonderful lunch with Marguerite, a fellow knitting blogger. I did feel a bit like a chatty Kathy, which I do when I'm nervous. I'm sorry if I talked your ear off Marguerite.

Thanks for meeting with me Marguerite. It was wonderful to get to meet you in person (and thanks for leaving the ax home--heh heh, a joke. Honest!). I hope we can get together again.

After lunch I took her to Harmony Yarns, my favorite of the yarn shops in this area. We both bought sock yarn-heh heh. All in all it was a great time. I'd do it again. Knitters, in general, are a great bunch of people.

Last night daughter Ruth called with some totally unexpected news. I have a new Grandkitty! Apparently the apartment she lives in allows pets. She and her roommate have wanted a kitty since they first moved in and finally could not stand it any longer. They went to the local animal shelter and adopted Linndamon, a ginger and white tabby ("with the cutest white toes!"), 6 months old, female, and "the sweetest thing!" The name is a little unusual. Her name was Lindsey. They didn't like it. They wanted to call her Cinnamon. But decided to meld the two names together and came up with something unique. We'll get to meet Linndamon over Thanksgiving break. Ruth is bringing her here when she comes home. (I see an angry Silver taking his feelings out on my doggies in the near future.)

Now on to this weeks edition of Friday's Feast.

A Sidewinder Day

So, I'm sitting there, looking at the Raspberry bracelet, which I posted about yesterday, and thinking about the recipient of this bracelet. I know that it is not appropriate for that particular person. There's NO way she'll wear it. Gail has never been a froo froo flowery kind of gal. She's very classic and refined in the way she dresses. I decided to dump the Raspberry idea and make her something I'm SURE she would wear.

Immediately I thought of the Sidewinder Bracelet pattern. It's a pattern that I found on the internet 4 years ago. Unfortunately, that web site is no longer there. I'm so so so glad I thought to print the pattern out and put it in my files. It's saved me some self recrimination.

I dug in the stash and found some leftover 4mm freshwater pearls that have been dyed a sort of taupe/gold color. I have some Japanese size 11 silver lined matte tan ab beads that go great with the pearls. The result? Definitely, without a doubt, most certainly something Gail will wear.

Yes, I took the magnetic clasp off the Raspberry bracelet and put it on this one. I also attached a piece of safety chain. Ha ha! That was a funny one. The chain kept glomming itself to the clasp in a most annoying way. Safety chain plus magnetic clasp does not work. So I made a beaded safety chain instead.

I did the laundry, vacuumed, cleaned up the sun room, and actually managed to add a couple inches to the swim suit cover too. I was screaming hot yesterday, in a productive kind of way. Not in a hot flash kind of way--though I do get those on occasion too.

I'm ready for lunch with the girl friends. I'll let y'all know how Gail liked the gift.

Have a great day.

ETA 2:15pm

Just got back from lunch with the girlfriends. Gail LOVED LOVED LOVED the bracelet. Whew! I'm so glad I changed my mind on that one. We had lunch at Azteca, which is in the big new Riverstone complex with the multiple screen movie theater. Someone let slip that it was Gail's birthday, so the staff came to the table with a funny sombrero, a Mexican style dessert, and we all sang happy birthday. Gail said she was embarrassed. But I'm sure she was secretly pleased. We all had a great time. The food was really good too!

I can remember when there was hardly any place around Coeur d'Alene that was worth eating at. I think Sizzler was pretty much the best place. Sizzler has long since gone out of business, and now we've got all kinds of wonderful eating spots.

The weather today is very Autumnish. Cold, dark, rainy, windy. The air is filled with colorful leaves blowing all over the place. The trees are getting much more bare looking. Winter is just around the corner.

Have a great afternoon.
